Autism Spectrum Disorder Professional Development

Schools and school divisions often need access to expertise related to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Mary Jo has 24 years of unique experience in this area, having been a resource teacher and consultant with the Autism service at the Health Sciences Centre and Neurodevelopmental Services/Autism at Manitoba Adolescent Treatment Centre.

Mary Jo provides presentation and facilitation to assist with professional learning. A sample of possible topics and the appropriate participants includes:

  • Overview of ways in which ASD affects students.

  • Review of all sections of ASD Handbook, targeted to staff new to positions as school or divisional administration, EAs, classroom / resource teachers, clinicians, This workshop can be delivered annually and on a regional basis to reduce costs to individual divisions.
  • Implications of the Appropriate Education amendment to the Pubic Schools Act for students with ASD.
