Educational Program Evaluation

Consultant: Joan Zaretsky, Ph.D.

Joan has varied experience evaluating programs. In Ontario, as a curriculum coordinator, she evaluated publishers’ programs and texts to make recommendations to her division for future direction and purchasing. In Manitoba, she helped evaluate a divisional mentoring program after its first year in order to determine future direction. As well, she facilitated an evaluation of the issues and needs of teachers with regard to implementation of the Appropriate Educational Programming legislation.

In any program evaluation, determining the context of the study is the first key task. Developing the rationale and desired goals determines the structure of the evaluation. Interview/survey questions can then be designed to reveal participants’ perceptions in relation to the goals and to suggest future directions. Joan ensures confidentiality by reporting only common themes and trends. As well, the findings will be revealed only to the school or division and data remain its property.

If you have a program you would like to have evaluated regarding its effectiveness or for future direction proposals, she is interested in meeting your unique needs.
